Genetic Testing
If cancer runs in your family, you might want to consider genetic testing. If you would like to know more about your risk for inherited cancer, genetic testing can give you some answers by analyzing your genes for mutations responsible for inherited cancer risk. This information will make it easier for you to make decisions about what you can do for early cancer detection and risk reduction. If you have already been diagnosed with cancer, the genetic testing can still help you by providing information about the risk for a second cancer. Informing your family members, especially close relatives, is important if you have the inherited gene mutations. There is a chance that your parents, brothers and sisters or children might have these mutations, too, which increases their risk for cancer.
