"Every year at the Jabboury Foundation’s Golf Tournament I visit the Health Fair that is held at the Club House. The purpose of the Health Fair is for the golfers to take 15 minutes out of their busy lives to learn about or get screened for various cancer diseases. I am aware that every year we have golfers that as a result of the screenings receive news that they have cancer. The good news though is that the cancer was diagnosed early so they were able to act quickly which might have saved their lives. I can relate to this myself because two years ago I was bothered by a mole on my back. After hearing stories of people dying from malignant melanoma I went to see Dr. Mahoney, a dermatologist that volunteers and does skin cancer screenings every year at the Health Fair. A couple of weeks later after the tournament I went to his office and had all of the various moles and age spots checked out more in depth. Dr. Mahoney did a biopsy on the large funny shaped area on my back and to my great relief it came back negative and my peace of mind was restored. As all of us get older we need to take better care of our health, and the Health Fair is the perfect opportunity to learn more about screening and prevention of cancer. Part of the Jabboury Foundation’s mission is to educate us about the risk of cancer and taking 15 minutes going through the Health Fair could save you life or that of your golf partner. I Hope to see everyone at the tournament again this year and encourage you to arrive early and do what I intend to do; take advantage of the free health screenings."
